The World Nuclear Industry Status Report (WNISR) is an annual, independent, international report project analyzing the current status of nuclear energy worldwide. It presents data on the construction and use of nuclear power plants around the world, the economy of projects, tendencies and trends in the development of nuclear energy in different countries, and deliberates the place of nuclear energy in the context of the global energy transition.

Bellona is happy and proud to contribute our expertise to WNISR2025 as part of our mission to increase transparency and access to information on the nuclear industry.
Bellona has lent its expertise on the Russian nuclear sector, nuclear risks related to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, as well as on the role of Russia in the international nuclear industry and dependence on Russia in various nuclear value chains. This expertise is the result of our nuclear group’s focus for the past several years.
Bellona has no principled position for or against nuclear energy. However, we are actively involved in discussions on several aspects of nuclear energy with stakeholders that advocate a variety of positions on nuclear energy use. Our goal is understanding, providing information, and solving issues. Our main concerns, are nuclear safety and security, as well as transparency and information access.
Our contribution in WNISR2025 regarding the Russian nuclear sector is but one part of our efforts to make the global nuclear industry more transparent and predictable, and to facilitate discussions on the future of nuclear energy and nuclear security that are grounded in facts. We are happy to participate in further discussions and will continue to use our expertise to work for a transparent, safe, and secure existing nuclear industry.
On the September 22nd, Bellona’s nuclear expert Dmitry Gorchakov will take part in two events in Rome together with other contributors, in connection with the presentation of WNISR2025.
From 9:30 to 12:30 a media briefing will be held, and from 14:00 to 17:30, a public discussion will be conducted on the new WNISR2025 report. The events are to be held in English and Italian.
