According to Nikolai Bichuk, head of the committee, the programme includes the establishment of a joint Russian-Norwegian situation centre on emergency situations in the Barents Sea, as well as a new Russian ecological information centre. Bichuk says the Russian-Norwegian situation centre will assist in emergency prevention, the Regnum news agency reported.
The Russian information centre will be formed on a base of the regional natural resources committee and will deal with environmental information collection and distribution.
The new Murmansk environmental programme also includes strengthening the security of oil shipping and reloading. The committee also plans to establish a system of oil spill monitoring in the Kola Bay.
