Publish date: May 16, 2006

The first stage of Yamal gas reprocessing chemical plant with a capacity of 500,000 tons of methanol a year will start operation in the beginning of 2007.

Building of the whole plant will be finished in 2010-2011. As far as gas shipment gives the biggest part of gas price, the new Yamal plant will have such an advantage as comfortable transport infrastructure. The plant’s construction is sponsored by foreign and Russian investors. Its payback period is expected to be three years. Methanol is produced from natural gas, RusEnergy reported.

The plant operation is expected to give new life to the Yamal route of gas pipeline, and give impulse to the Yamal power industry, city infrastructure and fuel-energy complex development.
