Presidential aide wants gas to Northwest Russia

According to Head of the Northwest Russian federal district, Ilya Klebanov, the construction of gas infrastructure in Northwest Russia is vital for development in the region and it therefore should become "a fifth national project".

The presidential aide says proposals on how to proceed with the gasification of Northwest Russia will be presented by Gazprom at a meeting between regional leaders in Northwest Russia. Several regional leaders in Northwest Russia have long worked for the construction of gas infrastructure in order to secure alternative cheap and stable energy supplies, BarentsObserver reported.

Russian President Vladimir Putin last year presented four “national projects”, which are to be political priority areas for the years to come. The national projects are healthcare, education, housing and agriculture
