The construction of a reactor for a high-capacity NPP has been going on for five years, whereas construction of a low-capacity NPP has been going on for 2-3 years. "Russia is prepared to help Mongolia to construct an NPP of any capacity” reported the Mongolian agency, quoting the statement of Rosatom’s director.
Mongolia’s president, in turn, announced the possibility of cooperation between Mongolia and Russia in the realm of environmental protection on the Asian continent. Joint exploration and mining of uranium would be possible, first and foremost, with Russia and Kazakhstan.
For intensive development in the realm of nuclear energy, our country needs the experience of a highly specialized work force in the NPP. It is essential that Mongolia begin training a large number of engineers in this field.
“The issue of developing energy technology was included in Mongolia’s National Development Plan until 2021. One of modern Ulaanbaatara’s most serious and ongoing problems has been the massive air pollution caused by its coal burning plants. This requires us to find a new source of energy, and that’s why we are prepared to work with Russia [to develop nuclear energy in Mongolia]” said the president at his meeting with Kirienko.
