EED – Time for Binding National Targets

Publish date: June 27, 2022

Together with several NGO's we asked the European Commission to adopt binding national targets, moving from ambition to implementation.

Energy Efficiency measures as directly electrifying heating are low-hanging fruit to reduce EU’s dependency on Russian gas. The Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) remains one of the key levers to operationalise and increase energy savings and ensure our energy security. Yet, despite such a significant consumption and emissions reduction opportunity, energy efficiency gains have slowed significantly since 2015, and the rate at which the building stock improves its energy performance remains at just 1%, even as EU policy goals require this figure to triple between now and 2030.

Together with several NGO’s we asked the European Commission to adopt binding national targets, moving from ambition to implementation.
