A number of radioactive pipes have been stolen from the premises of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

In a theft characterized as "not the first of its kind," unidentified thieves removed irradiated pipes from the premises of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the Deutsche Presse Agentur reports.

Chernobyl’s director Vladimir Schilinskiy was quoted as saying the materials could have been sold to do-it-yourself stores for use by homebuilders.
