As the climate crisis progresses, it’s become increasingly obvious  that it is i exacerbating existing inequalities. There has been some progress in mobilizing resources to address these inequities in some parts of the world, including the largest-ever grant program recently announced by the Environmental Protection Agency. Yet, supporting environmental justice efforts hinges not only  on funding, but also  community leadership, youth empowerment , and supporting  people to take control.

This panel will explore ways to engage communities and youth activists to put environmental justice at the center of the climate agenda. The conversation will draw on the perspectives of both leading private and public organizations, as well as storytelling from the front lines of the climate justice movement.

Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and blue hydrogen are seen as key solutions to mitigate climate change by the Norwegian petroleum industry and government. Meanwhile, businesses and municipalities in Norway believe that green hydrogen and ammonia could secure a better post-petroleum future for the Norwegian region, given the EU’s carbon neutral targets by 2050. This panel invites researchers and experts to discuss their perspectives on the role of CCS and blue hydrogen and their impacts on the Norwegian Arctic region.

It is well-known that concrete is responsible for significant CO2 emissions, primarily as a result of the carbon-intensive process by which its key ingredient, cement, is manufactured. What is less well known is that concrete absorbs CO2 throughout its lifecycle, a property known as cement recarbonation, concrete carbonation or, more simply, carbon uptake.

The event aims at presenting recent developments in estimating the natural carbon sink provided by concrete as well as development related carbonation-based binders and the use CO2 in the concrete value chain.

Carbon removal is a climate action by removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and locking it away forever to reduce global warming which requires technologies such as reforestation, carbon capture and storage, and other ways to reduce carbon concentration in the atmosphere, and helps balance carbon emission and make sure temperature in a safe valve.
