BRUSSELS - In October, Danish utility company DONG Energy announced that it was abandoning plans to build three coal-fired power plants without CCS in Scotland, Germany and England. DONG Energy announced last week that it would also abandon plans to build an unabated coal plant in Lubmin, Germany.

The planned capacity was of 1.620 megawatts (MW) with CO2 emission of 9 million tonnes per year, which made the Lubmin station one of the bigger plants in DONG energy’s portfolio.

The local groups have said that the decision was taken by the Board as a result of DONG’s lack of conviction that the project had the necessary support from the government. To date, the project had met notable opposition from local stakeholders.
