Study says capturing CO2 in Rotterdam feasible

AMSTERDAM – Capturing CO2 in Rotterdam is technically viable and several projects are on track for operation in 2015 said a study released Thursday, according to Reuters.

The study, which was initiated by the Rotterdam Climate Initiative, and is based on independent assessments, ound that the total costs of the varying projects ranged from €40 ($57.14) to €70 per tonne of CO2, the agency reported.

Nine energy firms including German utility E.On, Anglo-Dutch oil major Shell, and Belgian electricity company Electrabel are considering carbon capture projects around Rotterdam, Europe’s biggest port, said Reuters.
