Russian-Norwegian commission on nuclear safety meeting in Murmansk

MURMANSK – Murmansk is hosting the 11th working meeting of the Russian-Norwegian commission on nuclear safety.

According to b-port.com Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom’s assistant general director, Yevgeny Yevstatov will be leading the Russian delegation. The Norwegian delegation will be headed up by Norwegian Deputy Ministry of Foreign Affairs Elizabeth Walaas.

The conference is expected to be a venue for many reports on the issue of dismantling decommissioned submarines, environmental rehabilitation at Andreyeva Bay, and safe storage and handling of spent nuclear fuel in Russia’s Northwest.

Other subjects expected to be discusses are the dismantlement of Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generators, the safety of the Kola and Leningrad nuclear power plants and cooperation between regulatory agencies in Norway and Russia and the condition of multi-national cooperation in the areas of nuclear remediation in Russia.
