During recent year Lukoil company has been operating the oil terminal near nenets settlement Varandey, which suffered oil accidents earlier, since the beginning of the 90s. Company Varandey terminal addressed to the local administration with the request to rename the site to Sea Port Varandey. The local administration considered Lukoil’s input to the Barents Sea infrastructure development as positive and agreed to rename the site. Sea Port Varandey should be put in operation in the end of 2007. The port design has been agreed with the Russian Emergency Ministry, portnews reported.
