European ferries can go electric today and decrease the CO2-emmisions with 50 %, shows a report by Bellona.
The report shows that up to 800,000 tons of CO2 -emissions can be reduced by electrification of the ferry fleet in Italy, Greece, Germany and the UK.
These emissions typically happening in port and within the first hour of travel. The other half of the emissions, linked to longer voyages, can be tackled by substitution with low and zero emission fuels such as hydrogen, ammonia, biofuels, or carbon capture.
