Zvezda Yard employees blocked Trans-Siberian railway
On June 30 the employees of Naval Yard Zvezda in the Russian Far East blocked the Trans-Siberian railway for several hours. The blockage, consisting of 300 workers, was held at Amur train station, on the railroad which leads to Nakhodka, reports RIA News.
Naval Yard Zvezda is involved in decommissioning of obsolete nuclear powered submarines, but has received no state donations since the beginning of 1997. Hence, no salaries for the employees.
An attempt undertaken by a representative of the Russian President to dissuade the workers from carrying through their threats, failed in the morning.
The Prosecutor’s office in the Far East threatened the initiators of the blockage with criminal responsibility, but no arrests have been reported.
