MNEPR agreement was earlier signed by Russia, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Great Britain, European Union, European Atomic Energy Community. The USA signed the Agreement, but not the Protocol.
The parties involved intend to develop practical co-operation in the field of spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste handling in the Russian Federation. The documents define the order of accounting and examining of all the materials, personnel status, access to the sites etc. Mr. Khrippel said about $3 billion could be allocated for nuclear safety during the nuclear submarines dismantling thanks to this Agreement, the Federation Councils internet site reported. The members of the Federation Council voted unanimously for the ratification of the agreement.
