According to ITAR-TASS, on September 23 the specialists of the reactor department of the Zheleznogorsk Chemical Combine stopped the ADE-2 reactor. The shut down was carried out for maintenance works to increase reliability and safety of the reactors operation. The reactor was put in operation in 1964 and remains the main heat source for Zheleznogorsk. During maintenance works the boiler plants of the Combine, which use coal and residual oil, heat the town. The maintenance works were expected to take 10 days but there were still no reports in the mass media about the Zheleznogorsk reactor start.
