Sevmash to scrap another Typhoon submarine
The navy shipyard Sevmash signed a contract for dismantling of another Typhoon class nuclear submarine, ITAR-TASS reported in the end of last year.
In 2005 Sevmash should complete dismantling of the first Typhoon (no.712) and begin scrapping of the second Typhoon (no.713). In spring the second Typhoon will be transferred to the Sevmash plant.
The Soviet Union has built six Typhoons world’s biggest submarines included into the Guinness Book of World Records and promoted in Hollywood’s Hunt for the Red October. This 172 meters long submarine is capable of carrying 20 ballistic missiles each armed with 10 nuclear warheads.
