BRUSSELS – The European Commission came forth May 18th with a call for proposals for energy infrastructure projects under the European Energy Program for Recovery (EEPR) where 1.05 billion euro is set aside to carbon capture and storage (CCS) out of a total of 3.98 billion euro for construction of energy infrastructure.

Energy Commissioner Andris Piegbals commented to the press that the investment in carbon capture and storage is a key objective to reach the 20/20/20 climate goals by 2020.

The recovery program was adopted by the European Parliament and the Council of Ministers earlier this month, and is now awaiting a quick implementation. The project promoters are invited to submit their proposals by 15 July 2009 according to the list of eligible projects.
