European Union joins global CCS initiative

Its aim is to share information about CCS to its members that consist of 16 governments including the US and 40 major companies in the oil and gas, electricity, finance and coal sector.

Eivind Hoff of Bellona Europa welcomes this move by the EU, which is in line with recent EU decisions to finance CCS projects: €1.05 billion were set aside for CCS in the EU economic recovery package adopted this month, complementing the 300 million emission allowances reserved mainly for CCS projects in the revised directive on EU emission trade scheme adopted in April.
