Publish date: September 11, 2009

BRUSSELS – DNV (Det Norske Vertitas) – a Norwegian company specialising in risk management – has developed a unified approach to help ensure that COCO2 is transmitted in offshore and onshore pipelines in a reliable, safe and cost-effective manner.

The joint industry project is called CO2PIPETRANS, a project DNV initiated one year ago, said DNV on its website. Click here for more information about the project.

The guideline outlined in the CO2PIPETRANS provides guidance and sets out criteria for the development, design, construction, testing, operation and maintenance of steel pipelines.

The partners in the project are ArcelorMittal, BP, Chevron, Dong Energy, Gassco, Gassnova, ILF, Petrobras, Shell, StatoilHydro and Vattenfall, DNV said.

DNV also gave special acknowledgements to representatives of the Health and Safety Executive in the UK, the State Supervision of Mines in the Netherlands and the Petroleum Safety Authority in Norway.
