Bulgarian Energy Holding (BEH) prioritizes CCS project in Maritsa East Complex

Publish date: August 19, 2009

In its latest report BEH refers to the construction of a new lignite power plant equipped with CCS in Maritsa East Complex as one of its priority tasks.

Together with its planned trans-border gas projects and the energy developments in Bulgaria, BEH draws attention to the building of Maritsa East 4 thermal power plant (TPP). Reportedly, no further details about the project planning and funding are provided, however, the statement is a clear reconfirmation of the government’s commitment to start a new power with CCS technology.

The Bulgarian Energy Holding is 100% state owned and dominates the Bulgarian energy sector. It owns Mini Maritsa Iztok, Maritsa East 2 TPP, Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), the Bulgarian National Electric Company (NEK), the Bulgarian Electricity System Operator, Bulgargaz, Bulgartransgaz and Bulgartel.
