Kenji Urai, Managing Director for Toshiba India Private Ltd, has already confirmed that they plan to build a 5 megawatt (MW) CCS plant in India by 2016. Toshiba is already supplying NTPC with coal fired power plants. This year, the Indian power utility has ordered two 660 MW turbines from Toshiba and its partner in India JSW Energy. In total, Toshiba plans to sell power generation equipment for $400 million in India by 2015, according to Power Plant CCS.
India is planning to add 64,000 MW in coal-fired electric plant capacity in the years through 2017. The country is seeking ways to limit carbon dioxide emissions, after agreeing to reduce by 2020 its greenhouse gas emissions in proportion to gross domestic product by 25 percent, compared to levels in 2005.
