The vision of the BIGCCS Centre (hosted by SINTEF) is to contribute to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions. BIGCCS is a research-centre, established by the Norwegian Research Council as a direct response to the Climate Agreement Act adopted by the Norwegian Parliament in February, 2008.
The main objective is to develop new knowledge and technology in order to enable sustainable power generation from fossil fuels based on cost-effective CO2 capture, safe transport, and underground storage of CO2. The Centre has a special focus on stimulating innovation, and value creation.
This clip shows a simplified explanation of the concepts behind CCS, and is aimed at the general public. Public enthusiasm and understanding when it comes to CCS, is an important factor in raising policy-makers’ awareness of the need for regulations avoiding pollutants and emissions. In some cases, the public has even proven to be the number one driving force in implementing treatment-plants in order to avoid emissions and pollutants to the environment.
