The explosion took place in a 600 tonne oil reservoir belonging to the Rosneft-Arkhangelsknefteprodukt company. Local police have sealed the area and are evacuating the local population. The reservoir is one of six reservoirs located in the terminal area, Barents Observer reported.
Arkhangelsk authorities report that oil spills now cover up to 500 square meters in the area. Arkhangelsk authorities have already announced that a criminal charge will be initiated against the Rosneft-Arkhangelsknefteprodukt company.
