Amine technology is a well proven auxiliary oil and gas technology for removing CO2 and H2S from natural gas. There are thousands of amine facilities worldwide. Several suppliers are offering solutions for full-scale amine-based CO2 capture facilities planned in Europe and other regions. Yet there have been concerns that nitrosamines and nitramines, with possible human health impacts, may be emitted from future large scale amine-based CO2 capture facilities. Researchers at the Norwegian Institute for Air Research (NILU) and the University of Oslo have studied the atmospheric chemistry of amine emissions to air in a comprehensive study called the Atmospheric Degradation of Amines (ADA) Project. Aker Clean Carbon has also done extensive pilot testing which show that very low amine, nitrosamine and nitramine emission levels are achievable. Additional technology development and operation of demonstration facilities are likely to further reduce emission levels. Recent measurements have proven high efficiency for alkyl amine removal by Aker Clean Carbon’s emission control system.
The Norwegian research institute SINTEF has also recently stated that it is confident all potentially dangerous health impacts of amine technology can be handled without postponing existing projects.

As uranium supplies from Russia fall under the shadow of potential sanctions, and while Ukraine’s allies look to wean themselves off nuclear fuel produced by Moscow’s Rosatom corporation, owners of left-for-dead mines in the US are looking to revive their deposits.
The European Union doubled its purchases of Russian nuclear fuel in 2023, data from Eurostat and the UN’s international trade service Comtrade show.
The output of Russian nuclear power plants in 2023 decreased by 2.8% compared to 2022. A decrease in output occurred for the first time in 10 years a...
