EU plan for low-carbon technologies

The Plan singles out a number of low-carbon energy technologies that the Commission believes the EU should focus on strategically. Carbon capture and storage is one of these. Others include the development of energy infrastructure that will suit an energy system based on renewables. The Plan identifies a lack of joined-up research and development for these technologies across the Member States and proposes various measures to remedy these, although most proposals remain vague and need to be fleshed out in further detail.

The Commission will now seek endorsement for its plans from the Member States.
