Bellona Europa – Communications Assistant (Traineeship)

Job category: Full-time

Job location: Brussels/Belgium

Expiration date: 4 December 2022 (Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis)

As an organisation, Bellona has always been at the forefront of environmental innovation and industrial decarbonisation. Being a group of evidence-based environmentalists, our goal is to implement new, more sustainable actions effectively reducing CO2 emissions today. We advocate for pragmatic approaches that deliver the greatest impact, today and tomorrow. As a watchdog against greenwashing, unafraid to address contentious issues, we also endeavour to cooperate with all stakeholders interested in immediate climate action. From our Oslo and Brussels offices, we have been advocating transformative climate action in industry for decades.

We are looking for a motivated professional to work on communications at Bellona Europa. With our work on climate solutions, sometimes complex technologies and concepts need to be translated into simplified narratives and visuals that capture the essence of what we would like to communicate, without going into details.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Native level English, both spoken and written.
  • A strong team-spirit, commitment to the job, and the ability to multi-task and prioritise.
  • A background in journalism, English language or Communication studies.
  • A love for finding the right word, and for boiling concepts down to their essentials.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with complex concepts and simplifying them is a plus.
  • Experience working with adobe creative suite programs is a plus (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.).
  • A good understanding of the main social media outlets.
  • Eligibility to reside and work in Belgium.

There is no specific degree requirement. Nevertheless, excellent writing skills are a prerequisite.

Key responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Communications Specialist in drafting content for communication materials ranging from infographics to event invitations or press releases.
  • Supporting the Communications Specialist in editing and proofreading outgoing material, on designing publications, and on writing content for social media.
  • Supporting the wider team at Bellona Europa on content-related communication tasks.

We offer you a meaningful and engaging experience through this paid traineeship based in Brussels (full-time 38h/week) with an initial 6-month Belgian CIP contract, starting in January 2023 ideally. Bellona promotes a multicultural, flexible, inclusive and collaborative work environment.
