In the beginning of October overhaul repairs on the third reactor unit at Smolensk nuclear power plant was completed.

In the beginning of October the repairs on the third reactor unit at Smolensk nuclear power plant were completed. The plant currently operates on the second unit, while the first unit is shut down for maintenance.

In June the employees of Smolensk nuclear power plant, outraged by salary arrears, initiated a march of protest towards Moscow. The march was later supported by employees of six other nuclear power plants.

Smolensk nuclear power plant operates three reactors of RBMK-1000 type, commissioned in 1983, 1985 and 1988.
