R&Dialogue, a project Bellona is a lead partner in, together with six other projects has been selected to be showcased during this week's social media campaign (26.aug – 1.sep). The European Commission's Twitter, Facebook and Google+ pages disseminate the details about the project and its achievements, inviting all interested parties to take part in the debate. R&Dialogue got the opportunity to be in the spotlight on 1 September.

The European Commission has chosen 2013 to be the European Year of the Citizens (EYC). The year-long campaign promotes measures covering different policy areas and issues relevant to European citizens. It is designed to encourage a dialogue between all levels of government, civil society and business to discuss those EU rights and build a vision of how the EU should be in 2020.

Within the EYC, one of the underlined issues is the sustainable low-carbon energy production, development of renewable energy sources (RES) and CO2 capture and storage (CCS). Therefore R&Dialogue, a project Bellona is a lead partner in, together with six other projects has been selected to be showcased during this week-long social media campaign on engaging citizens in science (26.aug – 1.sep). The European Commission’s Twitter, Facebook and Google+ pages disseminate the details about the project and its achievements, inviting all interested parties to take part in the debate. R&Dialogue got the opportunity to be in the spotlight on 1 September.

‘R&Dialogue and Bellona are very proud to be one of seven European projects that are profiled in this media campaign. This clarifies that the European Commission recognises the importance of dialogue on lowering emissions and the need for society as a whole to participate in this development,’ said Sirin Engen, policy advisor at Bellona Europa and involved in R&Dialogue.

R&Dialogue is a project under the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme for Research (FP7). It deals with dialogue and discussions around low-carbon emissions in 10 different European countries and at EU level in Brussels. R&Dialogue is a consortium of 15 partners working on energy and the environment (scientists, environmental organizations, industry, consultants and policy advisors). Bellona has primary responsibility for the Norwegian part of the project (together with by NIVA and ZERO) and also the bulk of the responsibility for the European scope and management of the project.

Bellona’s new working paper analyzes Russia’s big LNG ambitions the Arctic

In the midst of a global discussion on whether natural gas should be used as a transitional fuel and whether emissions from its extraction, production, transport and use are significantly less than those from other fossil fuels, Russia has developed ambitious plans to increase its own production of liquified natural gas (LNG) in the Arctic – a region with 75% of proven gas reserves in Russia – to raise its share in the international gas trade.
