New generation nuclear ice-breaker’s draft design ready in 2004

In the end of May Vyacheslav Ruksha, the Russian Deputy Transport Minister, held a meeting at the Baltiysky shipyard in St. Petersburg regarding construction of the new generation nuclear ice-breaker.

It was decided to complete a requirements specification for the new icebreaker design until the end of the year. The Russian Transport Ministry would like to see the draft design in 2004. The new ice-breaker is expected to combine the features of liner icebreaker and icebreaker with limited draft, so it can be used at river mouth and shallow waters. The new ship should have more powerful nuclear installation and follow all the international safety and quality standards.
