The UK Energy Minister Charles Hendry announced on 1 May that Dr Jeff Chapman will take the role as Chair of the recently established CO2 Capture and Storage Cost Reduction Task Force. The Task Force, which was announced together with the new UK CCS competition last month, is being set up to help make CCS cost competitive in the UK.
Dr Chapman is the Chief Executive of the Carbon Capture and Storage Association, which is the UK body representing the CCS industry.
The objective of the Task Force is to advise the Government and industry on how to reduce the cost of CCS for the next wave of projects in the Government’s CCS Commercialisation Programme. It will set out a vision for the next phase of CCS development and contribute to the sharing of information between the Government and industry to tackle the challenge of making CCS cost competitive with other low-carbon technologies. The Task Force will produce a final report in early 2013.
